Personal Development Curriculum
Intent
Our aim at Enderby Road Infant School is to enable the children to Shine in everything that they do. Our personal development curriculum is based on one of our drivers – resilience, where we intend to give the children opportunities to thrive in all areas of their development. Our personal development curriculum runs alongside the knowledge and oracy curriculum enabling our holistic approach to child development to flourish. Through carefully planned activities and whole school approaches, our children will build crucial skills which will prepare them for a future beyond their infant experience – as both citizens of our local area and of the country. They will develop resilience to manage their own feelings and emotions as they grow and with their relationships with others around them. Our PSHE and RSE lessons support the children with their health and well-being whilst they learn about how their bodies grow and change as they progress through our school. We aim to give them the strategies that they will need in a supportive, nurturing school, to help them be the best that they can be.
Implementation
The Personal Development Curriculum is split into eight key areas which are designed to cover significant aspects of child development; these will ultimately build their resilience for many life situations that they will face as they grow. These areas are taught through structured lessons such as PSHE and SRE and through whole school approaches and experiences. Our behaviour policy is intrinsically linked to our children’s personal development and supports the whole child approach. Enrichment experiences are an integral part of our curriculum design as we are aware that some of our children may not have access to simple life enhancing experiences such as park or seaside visits. We also share and celebrate our enriching experiences with the children through our '50 things to do at Enderby'. They are all designed to enhance their learning whilst at the same time expose children to new experiences, supporting their personal development.
Impact
Through our whole school commitment to support our children’s personal development in this way, we have confidence that they will enjoy coming to school as well as being happy and content. When children leave Enderby Road Infant School, they will have gained the knowledge and understanding of how to maintain a happy and healthy mental and physical health as well as knowing how valuable they are as British citizens and the contributions they can make. They will have had access to enriching experiences, in and out of school, which support knowledge learnt as well as memories made
