Class 5 Maths - Bee-Bots

We had lots of fun learning about direction and turns using the Bee-Bots this week. The children had to work in pairs to work out the route the Bee-Bot would take to move over a space-themed Bee-Bot mat. The children were super at this and worked together really well to find each route. They also had fun on the iPads playing a game called 'DeadlyDoors' on ictgames which helped their understanding of clockwise and anticlockwise turns. This is a game which could be played at home.

Our Sports Afternoon

We had a lovely sports afternoon in the sunshine. Dave and Josh organised the afternoon and we all took part in our races with class 4 cheering us on from the sidelines. We did the traditional running races as well as a bean bag race, egg and spoon race and sack race. Everyone had a great time and team spirits were high but eventually, after Dave and Josh had totted up the scores, the Red team won in our class. All the children were given a certificate for their efforts and the members of the Red team each received a medal. A big thank you to Dave and Josh for a fantastic afternoon.

Our Visit to Gander Farm

We all had a terrific day at Gander Farm, the weather was great and the animals were friendly. We met horses, donkeys, chickens, ducks and cows.

Verity told us all about the crops that are grown at Gander Farm. We found out  they grow peas for Birds Eye and wheat for Warbutons.

Farming

This week and next, we will continue working on our mini topic of 'Farming'. As the title suggests, we will be learning about life on a farm and how farming has changed over the years with Gander Farm, the farm we will be visiting, as our main focus. In literacy, we will be listening to and working on farm-related stories. In science, we will be looking at the animals we might find on a farm and learning about their young as well as the life cycles of some of these farm animals. We are really looking forward to our visit to Gander Farm next Thursday!
