Enrichment Curriculum
Intent
At Enderby Road Infant and Nursery School, we want all of our children to have a rich and diverse mixture of experiences during their time at our school. We have purposefully built a variety of life enhancing experiences into our curriculum topics which will not only add educational value and grow the children's knowledge, but will also help to support their personal development. As our children our very young and from a town background, we aim to provide them with basic but highly valuable life experiences that they might not otherwise have had. For example, spending the day at the seaside or going on a 'bear hunt' through a forest. Our enrichment experiences have been planned to follow the chronological journey of the child through our school - matching key life events such as Christmastime and transition - enabling us the grow the 'whole child' during their time at our school.
Implementation
Our enrichment experiences follow our curriculum plans closely and are specifically designed to enhance the learning from each topic whilst building memory, resilience and mostly pure enjoyment of being at school. As we are a community who shine together, many of our enrichment experiences are shared ones and often have a whole school theme, for example, a seaside visit and a pantomime. Often, we have similar experiences which all classes will share, including Nursery, but take place at different times or days. By doing this, it helps to develop our sense of community and family within school and gives the children more opportunity to discuss and share with each other. Our experiences in school are always shared with the parents through Class Dojo so they can help to support the learning further with the children once they are home. As our curriculum follows a two-year cycle, some of these experiences will be repeated and developed as the children grow older as you can never go to the seaside too many times when you're only small!
Impact
Our children thoroughly enjoy our experiences in school. On a visit to the forest school, one EYFS child said that it was her 'best day ever!' which shows that even the simplest of life experiences can have the greatest of impact for children. The children are given freedom during our experiences to talk and share with each other which, in turn, builds their confidence as many of them experience these places with us for the first time. The impact on their children's knowledge and learning is vastly improved by them having a lived experience to draw upon which is evident in the work that they produce following these enhancements.
