Transition Into School

Transition into Enderby Road Infant School

Nursery

We will contact you in the half term before your child is due to start in our nursery. You  will be invited to  parent’s and children’s welcome session after school, so that you can see the nursery, meet the staff, ask questions and hopefully begin making friends with the other families who are due to start at the same time.

At this meeting we will arrange a time for a home visit.

Learning Together / Stay and Play

On the first day of the term which your child is starting with us we will invite you to a Stay and Play Session.  There will only be new starters at the session, and although parents/carers are invited if your children are happy and settled we encourage you to go and have a cup of tea on the premises, so your children get used to having a short time without you.

Starting Nursery

The children’s start dates are staggered so that we only have one new child in school per session, then we can give them lots of individual time. We are also guided by you – you know your child best, if you would like extra visits, or a longer transition time we will do our very best to accommodate you.

Reception

Parents Information Evening

At the beginning of summer half term, we offer a parents information session at the end of a school day, during which you can find out more about our EYFS setting, the curriculum, assessment, and meet the team who will be looking after your children during their first year of school.

School Visits

The children who are not in our school nursery are welcomed in to school for three visits, without parents. During those sessions they have the opportunity to spend some time with the staff who will be teaching them in September, but most importantly to make friends with the children who will be in reception with them.

These visits are arranged with you- the children are invited to come in once a week, for either a morning or afternoon and on the second and third visits they also have the opportunity to arrive early or stay later so that they can have lunch.

The nursery children who do not already stay for lunch also have the opportunity to so before September.

A final visit is arranged in the middle of July when the children come to school to spend a session with all the children and staff in the classroom where they will be in September.
